In my work, I have seen many times people struggling to set boundaries in the relationships that are most important to them. This is a skill we can all train ourselves to have, so that we can finally have the life and relationship we long for. Boundaries usually have a negative connotation as something mean and hostile - however healthy boundaries lay the foundations and you literally cannot exist without them. Personal relationships succeed only when we put those healthy boundaries in place, making sure that both parties respect.
More specifically, if you yourself don't respect the boundaries you have set, over time, you give some space, then a little more, then a little more, and before you know it, you put up with things you once promised yourself you would never put up with. Soon later, you see yourself in the mirror and you don't recognize yourself, because you allow things you hate. I don't tolerate being being belittled, devalued, called names, beaten - when you set such boundaries, you also give your partner the golden opportunity to meet you where you want.
Just think, what boundaries mean to you, what your boundaries are, how much do others respect them, but above all, how much YOU respect them!
